Chief James Swan - Vancouver Island First Nations Artist

James Swan is originally Manhousaht from Ahousaht and part of the Nuu-chah-nulth tribal council.

He said "The paintings and ideas are inspired from stories my grandfather Late Luke F. Swan from Manhousaht told us. Nan Luke sat us down and also recorded tapes of our history and where we come from and how things changed our lives."

He said examples of such stores are "The killerwhale changing into a wolf; the wolf becoming the Quiatsiik or policeman for our people".
